That was basically all of my fills for a while. As I improved, I was able to move into more complicated styles. Since I naturally like music, listening and finding things to copy was easy. I've learned playing the instrument myself as well, with no mentor and lessons to take. All I had was just the enthusiasm and the learning curve. I just studied the basics and then my creativity just drove me to where I am now. I think we had similar practice grounds, I also just tried listening to great drummers (mostly from experimental bands since I am more to offbeat tones) and watched several advanced techniques on youtube. Well, it's nice to be here anyway and I would love to see you play, hope you can upload a video next time :) Cheers and have a great week! These are great lessons. I love watching the kid at our church (he's only like 14) really bring the worship while drumming with the worship team. Since then, 9 years ago, I've played nearly every week at church and have done some local shows with other groups here and there. It is amazing how that whole process has played out and how similar it is to your story. We don't put the effort in to do it.
