Right on.

I think there are a number of reasons we ignore practical. You already addressed one. Here's are a couple others off the top of my head:

1. Practical is difficult to find. It's easier to pretend we know what we're talking about with all this obscure theory, similar to what you pointed out. Really it's just because we haven't taken the time to actually simplify it. "Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication." -Einstein

It takes an extra step (or a couple extra steps) to actually apply what we learn.

2. We think we're sliding into formulas. This is actually another post entirely. The simply idea, though, is that we're afraid to be practical because we don't want to reduce Christianity (or life in general) to a formula. I think that's a legitimate concern that needs to be addressed, but I don't think it means we should abandon practical all together.

Great point, Marshall. I think people dismiss practical because they feel it isn't spiritual enough, which leads back to root of a misunderstanding of the gospel. The point wasn't that Jesus rubbed mud and spit together OR that He could simply touch someone to heal them. His point was that He can heal them... any practical way He wants to.

Practicality is Biblical.
